Pore-network modeling of Ostwald ripening in porous media: How do trapped bubbles equilibrate?
نویسندگان
چکیده
Ostwald ripening of trapped bubbles in porous media is relevant to several subsurface (e.g., CO2 storage) and manufacturing fuel cells) applications. A fundamental question common both is: how does an initially heterogeneous distribution bubble sizes, PDFo, evolves towards a stable equilibrium distribution, PDFe? And what We develop pore-network model (PNM) that simulates the temporal evolution partially miscible population from PDFo PDFe. The PNM validated against published micromodel experiments. subsequently propose theory can predict PDFe directly. predictions are compared simulations found be close agreement. Using PNM, we also show equilibration lot slower than homogeneous media. Limitations potential extensions discussed.

Ripening of porous media.
We address the surface-tension-driven dynamics of porous media in nearly saturated pore-space solutions. We linearize this dynamics in the reaction-limited regime near its fixed points--surfaces of constant mean curvature (CMC surfaces). We prove that the only stable interface for this dynamics is the plane and estimate the time scale for a CMC surface to become unstable. We also discuss the di...
متن کاملA New Approach for Constructing Pore Network Model of Two Phase Flow in Porous Media
Development of pore network models for real porous media requires a detailed understanding of physical processes occurring on the microscopic scale and a complete description of porous media morphology. In this study, the microstructure of porous media has been represented by three dimensional networks of interconnected pores and throats which are designed by an object oriented approach. Af...
متن کاملPore-scale modeling of transverse dispersion in porous media
[1] A physically based description is provided for the transverse dispersion coefficient in porous media as a function of Péclet number, Pe. We represent the porous medium as lattices of bonds with square cross section whose radius distribution is the same as computed for Berea sandstone and describe flow (Stokes equation) and diffusion (random walk method) at the pore scale ( mm) to compute th...
متن کاملFlow in porous media pore-network models and multiphase flow
In the last 3 years there has been a huge increase in the use of pore-scale modeling to study multiphase flow and transport in porous media. Starting from single pore models of fluid arrangements, computations of relative permeability, interfacial area, dissolution rate and many other physical properties have been made. Combined with a realistic description of the pore space, predictive modelin...
